Architect: Where it all started, but what's the answer?
By LastJobStandingNovember 2, 2025
Resistance Rating: 3.5/5
It was a discussion about whether studying architecture was a future-proof choice that sparked Last Job Standing.
This is where it started and now it's time to use THE PC Model to check the AI resistance rating of being an architect. Can architects sleep tight and is this a profession that is recommended for future students?
THE PC Model™ Resistance Rating
Most countries and states require licensing or registration to practice architecture. Who is liable if something goes wrong? Are you going to sue the company behind the AI-generation tool? We are giving a full score in this category.
Negotiating, adapting plans, mediating between different parties, writing emails and lead meetings. A lot of human factors are needed to navigate on the road from sketches to buildings.
Buildings need to be safe, accessible, sustainable, and ethical. An architect needs to balance the needs of developers and the needs of future users of the buildings. Many of the guidelines are part of certifications such as BREEAM and LEED, so not all ethical decisions are made on a case by case basis.
Physical presence is not always needed, as much of the work can be done remotely. However, site visits and in-person coordination meetings might still be needed.
Much of what architects do involves creative analytical thinking, original perspectives, and problem-solving abilities. However, AI can generate variations on existing designs. And let's face it, much of the architectural work is not creating new Guggenheim museums.
Total Resistance Rating
3.5 / 5
The profession that started Last Job Standing gets a decent score using our model. The architects of 2035 will most likely work alongside AI, focusing on economic, environmental and human sustainability. The algorithms can not, at least not yet, be liable for these factors. However, in 2025, UK architect practices using artificial intelligence (AI) are at 59%, compared to 41% in 2024(1).
Some claim that architects will not disappear, but that this profession also will transform, as AI will radically develop and augment the architect's role(1). Since architecture encompasses both the personal and non-personal, there is currently a push-and-pull of AI's future influence(2).
Our projection is that it will do better than most creative professions facing the AI wave. So if you want to work in a creative field, this might be one of the safest bets.
